Travel Day: Amsterdam - Paris

Silly us. Another travel day. Today we leave Amsterdam for Paris. We’re taking the train. We take the hotel shuttle to Schipol Airport to switch to the Intercity train to Amsterdam Central to finally catch the Thalys high speed train to Paris. I didn’t get any pictures of the actual Thalys train since at that point all I was concerned with was getting the giant suitcase down the skinny aisle and then up in the overhead rack. Note to self: If you take a smaller suitcase it will force you to take only what you truly need.

Funny thing. When we were on the Thalys it made several stops before it got up to “high speed” status. And one of the stops was Schipol Airport. The place that we took the Intercity train from into Amsterdam Central. How we missed the fact that we could have caught it in the airport instead of taking the extra train trip into the city is beyond me. Finally we arrive in Paris Noord.

Following directions from the hotel staff we purchase metro tickets for the express train that will take us within 5 minutes of our hotel. Have you ever tried to get through a subway turnstile with luggage? I highly recommend it to everyone just so they can experience how miserable travel can get. We hop on the metro for one short ride to the next station and wend our way up the escalators to the surface only to be confronted with a second set of turnstiles. WTF? Seems when we fed our tickets in at the first turnstile we were supposed to retrieve them from the other side of the machine to use them again to exit the station. The nice security man on the other side of the turnstiles takes pity on us and lets us out the Baby stroller pass-through. He gives us clear directions to our hotel. So far every single person we’ve asked questions of has been very kind and courteous. Where are all these rude French I keep hearing so much about?

A short walk to dine and a little walk after yields the following nuggets. Our first Old French Building (It’s a church and perhaps tomorrow I’ll be able to figure out which one):

My shoe fetish being satisfied in a most unusual manner:

And last but not least, bunnies:

Why are there giant bunnies on the street corner? It’s France, that’s why.

P.S. There was a movie on the Dutch TV last night. Lijn Bestemming.

Those bunnies are scary and awesome at the same time. One of those appears to be big enough to take up my entire living/dining room, but, who really uses those anyway? I surely don't.

And for some reason I feel like I should know what that building across the street behind the bunnies is....
